Zone 10 · Alliums Growing Guide
Bunching onions harvested before they bulb up. Much easier than bulb onions — no day-length concerns, just direct sow and harvest in 60–80 days. Succession sow for year-round supply.
In Zone 10, Spring Onion / Scallion should be planted outdoors Sep – Mar, after the average last frost date of approximately Jan 15.
Cool season focus but wider window than most alliums.

Light, consistent feeding produces tender green tops. Liquid feed every 3 weeks.
Sow every 2 weeks from early spring through summer. Spring onions are quick (60–80 days) and one of the best succession crops — a small row every 2 weeks keeps them coming all season.
What you plant next to spring onion / scallion makes a real difference — some plants actively help, others compete or attract pests.
These guides get better when growers like you contribute. If something’s wrong or you’ve learned something worth sharing, we’d love to hear it.
