Zone 10 · Beans & Peas Growing Guide
Climbing beans that produce all season rather than all at once. Need a trellis or poles. More productive per square foot than bush beans — better choice for small gardens.
In Zone 10, Pole Beans should be planted outdoors Feb 1 – Mar 15, Sep 1 – Oct 15, after the average last frost date of approximately Jan 15.
Two short seasons. Spring and fall are productive.

Like bush beans, pole beans fix nitrogen. Over-feeding produces lush vines with poor pod set.
Sow every 3–4 weeks from last frost through early summer. Pole beans produce longer than bush beans but succession still helps extend the season.
What you plant next to pole beans makes a real difference — some plants actively help, others compete or attract pests.
These guides get better when growers like you contribute. If something’s wrong or you’ve learned something worth sharing, we’d love to hear it.
