Zone 8 · Herbs Growing Guide
A tropical grass that doubles as a dramatic ornamental clump. Harvest stalks for curries, soups, and teas. In warm zones it's a large perennial — in cold zones, grow in a pot and bring indoors in winter.
In Zone 8, Lemongrass should be planted outdoors Mar 1 – Apr 15, after the average last frost date of approximately Feb 15. Start seeds indoors around Jan 1 – Jan 15 for a head start.
In-ground perennial in most of Zone 8. Clumps grow large over years. Cut back hard in late winter.

Tropical grass that loves nitrogen. Feed monthly during the growing season. Reduce feeding in autumn.
What you plant next to lemongrass makes a real difference — some plants actively help, others compete or attract pests.
These guides get better when growers like you contribute. If something’s wrong or you’ve learned something worth sharing, we’d love to hear it.
