Zone 6 · Peppers Growing Guide
The most popular hot pepper for home gardens. Prolific producer, heat-tolerant, and easier than bell peppers. Harvest green for maximum heat or red for sweetness.
In Zone 6, Jalapeño should be planted outdoors Apr 20 – May 15, after the average last frost date of approximately Apr 1. Start seeds indoors around Feb 20 – Mar 15 for a head start.
Excellent zone. One plant produces 25–35 peppers per season. Keep harvesting to encourage more fruit.

Consistent feeding produces more pods. Calcium helps prevent blossom end rot.
What you plant next to jalapeño makes a real difference — some plants actively help, others compete or attract pests.
These guides get better when growers like you contribute. If something’s wrong or you’ve learned something worth sharing, we’d love to hear it.
