Zone 5 · Melons Growing Guide
The sweetest melon when grown properly — needs the longest heat accumulation of all melons. Ready when the blossom end yields to gentle pressure and smells fragrant.
In Zone 5, Honeydew Melon should be planted outdoors May 25 – Jun 10, after the average last frost date of approximately Apr 15. Start seeds indoors around May 1 – May 10 for a head start.
Marginal zone. Cantaloupes are more reliable in Zone 5 — save honeydew for Zones 6+.

Consistent feeding produces sweeter, larger fruit. Reduce feeding as fruit ripens.
What you plant next to honeydew melon makes a real difference — some plants actively help, others compete or attract pests.
These guides get better when growers like you contribute. If something’s wrong or you’ve learned something worth sharing, we’d love to hear it.
