Zone 7 · Brassicas Growing Guide
The most demanding brassica. Needs consistent temperatures — too hot or too cold and the head won't form. 'Blanching' (tying leaves over the head) keeps it white. Rewarding when it works.
In Zone 7, Cauliflower should be planted outdoors Mar 1 – Apr 1, Aug 15 – Sep 15, after the average last frost date of approximately Mar 15. Start seeds indoors around Jan 25 – Feb 15 for a head start.
Fall/winter crop is primary in Zone 7. Spring crop is brief window before heat.

Same as broccoli — nitrogen early, balanced once the head appears. Consistent moisture matters more than feeding.
Start a spring crop and a late-summer crop for autumn harvest. Cauliflower is tricky — succession helps spread risk as individual plants often fail.
What you plant next to cauliflower makes a real difference — some plants actively help, others compete or attract pests.
These guides get better when growers like you contribute. If something’s wrong or you’ve learned something worth sharing, we’d love to hear it.
