Zone 3 · Leafy Greens Growing Guide
One of the fastest crops you can grow — baby leaves in 21 days. Peppery flavour intensifies with heat and age. Bolts to seed quickly in warm weather — treat as a cool-season cut-and-come-again.
In Zone 3, Arugula should be planted outdoors Apr 20 – Jun 1, Aug 1 – Aug 25, after the average last frost date of approximately May 15.
Cold-hardy — can sow under row covers in April. Baby leaves in 3 weeks. Bolt quickly in summer.

Light feeder. A single application of balanced fertilizer at planting is enough. Over-feeding reduces the peppery flavour.
Sow every 2–3 weeks throughout spring and again from late summer. The fastest succession crop in the garden — ready in 3 weeks. Keep sowing and you'll rarely be without it.
What you plant next to arugula makes a real difference — some plants actively help, others compete or attract pests.
These guides get better when growers like you contribute. If something’s wrong or you’ve learned something worth sharing, we’d love to hear it.
